Site Suitability Analysis

Stormwater Site Suitability for Tangipahoa Parish Using GIS

Analyzed Tangipahoa Parish watershed and land use data to identify suitable stormwater management sites within the parish using GIS software. The Tangipahoa Parish Stormwater Sites Study is a series of recommendations composed of programs and projects to reduce the risk of flooding and improve water quality due to stormwater runoff. By superimposing watershed data and Digital Elevation Models (DEM) from statewide LIDAR datasets she determined the greatest percentage of watersheds within low-lying areas. The intersections between undeveloped land, non-forested, and non-wetland areas with parcel data were mapped to determine sites with significant amounts of priority land. These sites maximize the potential storage capacity of a stormwater management facility without impeding on other uses planned by the landowner.
